French prosecutor: Train suspect watched jihadi video
Molins said El-Khazzani notably watched an online video inciting radical violence minutes before the thwarted attack. But his explanation grew less and less lucid, the prosecutor said, and the suspect eventually stopped speaking to investigators at all. He said he rallied when he heard American voices and saw them begin their assault.
208-w-35-(Sagar Meghani (SAH’-gur meh-GAH’-nee), AP national security correspondent, with sound of applause at Ramstein Air Base and and Navy Captain Jeff Davis)-The American service members who helped stop an attack on a Paris-bound train have arrived in Germany after receiving France’s highest award – the Legion of Honor.
He is reported to have lived in France, Spain, and Belgium and to have travelled to Syria.
The press conference held at the U.S. Embassy in Paris brought the childhood friends together to recount the events of the train rampage.
El-Khazzani and the Americans, who received minor injuries in the scuffle, were the only people on the train injured. No one was detained or taken in for questioning, though investigators seized “some objects” for further examination, it said.
Investigators in Brussels searched two buildings in the Molenbeek-Saint-Jean neighborhood where the suspect may have stayed, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.
The next step will be determining where his weapons came from, how he financed them, and whether he had any accomplices, Molins said.
On Saturday, while Stone was in a French hospital being treated for slashes to his neck, face and hand – his friends said his thumb was nearly severed- Skarlatos and Sadler spoke to the French and British media.
One of the men – U.S. Airman Spencer Stone – is now in Germany for observation and treatment at a U.S. military hospital.
“Specialist Skarlatos’ actions that day epitomize what we mean by a soldier of character – one who lives by a personal code where dedication to duty and taking care of others is sacred”, Secretary of the Army John McHugh said in announcing that Skarlatos would receive the Soldiers Medal. The third man, Anthony Sadler, 23, is scheduled to start out his senior yr at Sacramento State on Monday, though college officers are ready to verify when he’ll return house. Besides Sadler, Stone lives in close by Carmichael, California. Earlier he had flown back to the U.S. from France on a private jet made available by the CEO of Columbia Sportwear and switched to the commercial flight in Portland, Oregon.
A heavily-armed gunman overpowered by passengers on a crowded train is “dumbfounded” by allegations of terrorism and denies any shot was fired, his lawyer said in comments broadcast Sunday.
In Georgia, the sister of Mark Moogalian described him as forthright and determined, and is not surprised by his unselfish actions on the train.
Skarlatos added that if the attacker had known how to handle guns, he could have killed many people. “He’s a free spirit”.
