Judge overturns Terrence Howard divorce settlement
A judge will determine whether Howard can overturn a divorce settlement with his second wife because of his claims she extorted him to sign the agreement by threatening to leak private information, during a ruling expected on Monday, August 24, 2015.
The New York Daily News said Ghent threatened to leak phone sex recordings with other women and a video of Howard dancing naked in a bathroom. After an ongoing dispute with ex-wife Michelle Ghent over increased spousal support seemed like a never ending battle, the L.A. Superior Court judge has finally come to a decision, ruling in favor of the 46-year-old actor. She was not allowed to testify at a recent hearing.
“Despite specifically finding that Terrence Howard was a “bully” who was not credible in multiple respects, the Court granted Mr. Howard’s request to set aside the judgment”, Ghent’s attorney wrote.
During this up and down journey, Howard claimed that he was pressured into signing an agreement that would give Ghent the right to receive close to $6,000 a month, which would be “hush money” for all of the drama and evidence Ghent claimed she had on Howard.
The actor called it “blood money”. Accordingly, Michelle would not be be able to chase after his “Empire” earnings and they would have to discuss again the amount Ghent would be receiving from the actor as well as other matters surrounding the divorce settlement, as per Los Angeles Times. The pair will now also have to negotiate the terms of their settlement, which Howard supposedly signed in 2012 under the threat that Ghent would expose sensitive material that could damage him.
The Oscar-nominated actor is not required to attend.
He responded: “I loved her, and I was afraid of her also”.
The actor’s career has resurged since the debut of “Empire“, a hit series for Fox that had steadily improved ratings each week in its first season.
Work on the show’s second season continues.
