Jets quarterback jaw broken by team-mate
On Tuesday, New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith was sucker-punched by (now former teammate) linebacker IK Enemkpali.
According to multiple reports, the incident was the result of $600 in airfare and limo costs that Enemkpali reportedly paid to have Smith appear at an event in Pfugerville, Texas, on July 11. “It’s something we can’t stand. And you don’t walk up to another man and punch him in the face”. It was something very childish.
The most interesting thing about this Geno Smith fight scenario so far – other than the NY Daily News nicknaming him “Broadway Jaw” – is that the argument with Ikemefuna Enemkpali may have been over money.
Bowles said the Jets could add another quarterback, but veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick will assume the starting job.
“It takes two to tango”, Bowles said.
The punching incident, which will sideline Smith for six to 10 weeks, occurred at the Jets’ training facility in Florham Park.
The drama between Smith and Enemkpali is reminiscent of the action seen on football dramas like Ballers, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. According to NFL Network, Enemkpali leveled Smith when the quarterback put his finger in the 270-pounder’s face during a heated exchange, prompting the punch. The danger in waiting a long time, of course, is that you end up wasting season; Smith, in two season, has not proven up to the task. Bowles told reporters Tuesday that Enemkpali, a reserve linebacker, would have been released even if he were a starter. He went on to say it was not his intention to harm anyone and that he should have walked away from the argument.
Smith posted an all caps message to Instagram, proclaiming, “ILL BE BACK”. “Whatever happened up at Jets Camp, I really can’t speak on”. As for 24-year-old Enemkpali, he was cut from the teams roster and the coaches were not happy with him. He was a sixth-round draft pick past year.
