£25m global star: Manchester United have not made a move for me
Manchester United’s hopes of snapping up Jasper Cillessen have taken a hit with the goalkeeper having confessed that he’s expecting to stay at Ajax.
Cillessen is understood to be a potential target for Manchester United in the event of David de Gea leaving Old Trafford.
“As far as I know it has never been an item”.
The Mirror states that he could cost the Premier League club £25 million but Cillessen’s coach De Boer believes that he will be remaining at the Amsterdam Arena but couldn’t rule out the possibility of a sale.
However, Cillessen has moved to confirm that he will not be joining United before the transfer window closes and insists that he has not had any contact with Louis van Gaal’s side in the wake of the speculation.
Although Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero have been signed on free transfer earlier this summer and have played all four matches, the goal keeper is still not good enough to deputize on goal ahead of David De Gea. “But Jasper is now only more and more expensive”.
Cillessen has already kept three clean sheets in the new Eredivisie season as Ajax look to reclaim their crown from current champions PSV Eindhoven. Considering how long it took United to properly replace Peter Schmeichel, there can be no half measures for a club who should be challenging on every front.
