Bryan Cranston To Star With James Franco In ‘Why Him’
20th Century Fox has announced that Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad”, Godzilla) will co-star with James Franco (Pineapple Express, The Interview) in the comedy Why Him. It’s being directed by John Hamburg (I Love You, Man), who’s co-writing with Ian Helfer (Wainy Days). Shawn Levy is producing under his 21 Laps banner, with Ben Stiller also attached to produce through his Red Hour Films shingle. Meanwhile, the president of the latter company, Dan Levine, oversees the knee-slapper with Fox’s Jeremy Kramer.
As Variety reports, the film is called Why Him? and sees Cranston playing a dad who faces off against his daughter’s douchey tech billionaire boyfriend. The project comes on the heels of the two actors having just worked together on In Dubious Battle, which Franco directed and also stars in, and which is due for release next year.
Before shooting kicks off, Cranston is set to make waves in his blacklisted screenwriter biopic Trumbo, which debuts at TIFF, before lending his vocal talents to Kung Fu Panda 3.
He’s repped by UTA.
