Celtic’s Stuart Armstrong given Scotland call-up
Scotland manager Gordan Strachan has been discussing his decision to once again call up Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong to the national team, according to quotes published by BBC Sport. But Gordon Strachan, declining to describe it as a must-win game, warned his side won’t have it easy away to Georgians.
With the return of Derby striker Chris Martin and Hull goalkeeper Allan McGregor, there are 10 English Premier League players in the latest squad, nine from the Championship and six from the Scottish Premiership.
Like McGregor, Blackburn defender Grant Hanley is back after injury while midfielders Barry Bannan and Charlie Adam miss out.
“Two years ago it was easy to pick the Scotland squad, now it’s getting harder and harder”, he said. He seems to be snug at the extent he’s taking part in in & he’s turning in to a serious figure in games.’ After spending 5 seasons at Dundee United, Armstrong signed for Ronny Deila’s Bhoys in February alongside United team-mate Gary Mackay-Steven, 24, who has one cap for Scotland.
Meanwhile in form Dundee keeper Scott Bain has been left disappointed after his name was left off the teamsheet.
“It’s about dealing with the situation, dealing with the big-game mentality, dealing with the press that comes along and dealing with the crowds”, said former Scotland midfielder Strachan. “That’s one thing the boys at Celtic should cope with on a regular basis and Stuart, so far as I can see, is coping with that nicely now”.
