Rahul Gandhi begins his 3-day trip to J&K
Singh’s comments came as Rahul Gandhi began a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir today against the backdrop of high tensions along the India Pakistan border. During his trip, Rahul will travel to all three regions of the state – Jammu, Kashmir Valley and Ladakh, The Hindustan Times reported. In Poonch, he met and talked to the people who were living close to LoC and have been witnessing the cross border shelling by the Pakistani Rangers every alternate day.
After landing at Jammu airport, Gandhi immediately flew in a helicopter to the Balakote area of the LoC in Poonch district where six people were recently killed in Pakistan shelling.
Meanwhile, the BJP said that Gandhi was ‘trying politicize something on which nation needs to stand together’.
Rahul Gandhi’s visit is being seen by the Congress as an attempt to reach out to the border area population in Jammu and Kashmir. Sopore is the area where many telecom business people were killed recently.
The 45-year-old Congress leader spent almost hour an hour with the families, and was accompanied by state Congress chief, Gulam Ahmed Mir and senior leader, Ambika Soni. Rahul Gandhi will stay here for three days.
Rahul Gandhi will visit Srinagar on Thursday according to Mir and he is also scheduled to address a public gathering in north or south Kashmir and the venue of the gathering will be finalized soon.
