Florida, Muschamp passed on taking Sam Ukwuachu
Because Muschamp came to this decision after a “Boise State athletic department employee detailed Ukwuachu’s troubles with a girlfriend”, including physical abuse. It’s conceivable UF could have used that relationship to obtain information from “a Boise State athletic department employee”, which might or might not be a coach.
“I was told the staff was very concerned about Sam being depressed and violent towards himself and their worries were for him, never once did they ever tell me he had struck or hit a female or had a violent encounter with anyone”, Heath said. But I seriously doubt that one year away for both coaches would mean neither one could get the full story on Ukwuachu from Chris Petersen. Now we’re getting reaction from the player’s former Pearland high school coach.
Petersen has since issued a statement refuting Briles’ claims and sat=ying he reached out to the Baylor coach to inform him of Ukwuachu’s background. “The defendant was convicted, which was a great win for the state, I would say in this particular offense the punishment was a bit of a blow for the state”.
Despite Heath’s comments, there’s still is no clarity in this situation.
Baylor University will conduct an investigation into the school’s handling of sexual assault allegations against a football player who was allowed to transfer into coach Art Briles’ program despite a history of disciplinary problems at Boise State.
“As required with any transfer to Baylor, Boise State acknowledged that he was not suspended due to any institutional disciplinary reasons and further that he was eligible for competition if he chose to return to Boise State“, Briles said.
Do you think anyone knew what was really going on with Ukwuachu?
The issues of “who knew what when” is known by two men – Chris Petersen and Art Briles.
“I know and respect Coach Petersen and he would never recommend a student-athlete to Baylor that he didn’t believe in”.
And, moreover, I buy that a documented history of screwing up at the collegiate level – and, especially, an alleged bit of deceit when asked to tell the whole story about his girlfriend that the article alludes to – would dissuade Muschamp and/or Florida from pursuing Ukwuachu diligently.
Back on October 19, 2013, Ukwuachu was found to have sexually assaulted a female soccer player after driving her to his apartment and forcing her to lie down on his bed face down.
