Security Escorts Univision’s Jorge Ramos Out of Donald Trump Press Conference
When Donald Trump announced he was running for president back in June, he made headlines when he referred to illegal immigrants from Mexico as “rapists” and “criminals”.
Trump’s ejection of Ramos is particularly egregious when you consider that Ramos has been known to be tougher with Obama in his interviews than most American journalists.
As he was taken from the room, Ramos said, “You can not build a 1,900-mile wall”, another proposal in Trump’s plan.
In a video from the event, Ramos is heard trying to ask a question about deportation before the GOP presidential candidate cuts him off.
“I didn’t escort him out – you’ll have to talk to Security, who escorted him out”.
“You can’t just stand up and scream”.
“Marco Rubio is a nice guy and so is Jeb Bush, I think he is a nice person but I don’t care”, Trump said.
Mr Ramos later returned to the room and was able to ask a question.
Trump is suing Univision for $500 million after the Spanish-language station refused to air Trump’s Miss USA Pageant.
On Tuesday, August 25, 2015, Trump met with members of the media before his scheduled appearance at the Grand River Center. “I can’t deal with this“, Trump said and turned his attention to another reporter.
“Because I thought her questioning and her attitude was inappropriate”, Trump said, in re why he tweeted as he did.
In response to questions about Trump’s perception to FOX News’ coverage of him, Trump told reporters he’s received the worst treatment from the network.
Shortly thereafter, Trump moved onto other reporters, but came back to Ramos after only a roughly six-minute reprieve.
“Scott Walker would have been my second one to pick from, but, it’s just Trump is not held back by money like other people are. Maybe it matters, maybe it doesn’t”, Trumps said when asked if FNC’s coverage of him is having an impact.
Trump has used crime as a wedge in the immigration debate, citing in particular a killing in San Francisco last month in which the suspect had been deported five times. Ramos, who has been openly critical of Trump’s immigration plans, was allowed to return to the press conference where he quizzed the candidate on his immigration policy.
“I don’t understand”, Ramos said. “We have some very bad ones” – apparently alluding to immigrants in the country illegally.
Following the incident, Fusion CEO and president of news for Univision Isaac Lee invited Trump to continue the conversation.
