Taylor Swift invites Alanis Morrisette onstage to perform ‘the greatest
And the moment Swift welcomed her to the stage for a duet of “You Oughta Know”, plenty of teens lost their minds. Swift has invited everyone from singers like Mary J. Blige, to athletes like Kobe Bryant, to take the stage with her, and her concert in LA was no exception.
Moreover, Taylor told the crowd she and other female singers of this generation wouldn’t pen the way that they do without her influence and of her music. “And she has written some of the most brilliant music-in particular probably inarguably the greatest breakup song of all-time”.
“She defined the generation of female songwriters”.
That night, Taylor dethroned herself as “pop princess” in favour of Ellen, who wore an outfit and fringed skirt even more glittery than the singer’s own. Swift noted that Morissette made it possible to sing about “raw feelings” and one’s life, and “you could get really, really mad if you wanted to”.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Morissette’s “Jagged Little Pill” album, which featured “You Oughta Know”, along with the hits “Ironic” and “Hand In My Pocket”.
Also joining her onstage was rocker Morissette, who Swift praised for inspiring her as a young musician. The funnywoman seemed to have raided Swift’s wardrobe to try a different “Style” herself, donning a full silver sequin get-up and fringe tutu.
