Rand Paul makes campaign stop in Anchorage
He’s the sixth presidential candidate announced as a speaker at the 31st Biennial Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference.
Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul is mingling with what he calls “like-minded” people in Alaska.
Paul is scheduled to hold a rally at the Boise State Student Union at 11:30 a.m. Thursday and another event at the Nampa Civic Center at 2:45 p.m. that day.
“It’s too early to tell what will happen and that will be a great problem to encounter once I get beyond the primary were I to be the nominee”, Paul said.
Paul’s father, Ron Paul, also appeared in Alaska during his own bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012.
Matthew and Shelby Allen, both 24, of suburban Anchorage said Paul’s visit made it feel like Alaska is part of the political game, but that wasn’t enough to clinch their votes.
Paul’s Alaska visit kicked off a Western swing, with other stops planned in Washington state, Idaho, Utah and Wyoming. But since then, Paul’s campaign has faltered in the polls.
