Google Patents A System That Will Warn Drivers About Potholes
Now, Google tries to discover the damaged part of the road with the help of the GPS navigation system and sensors. Google has a new solution in the works.
This new system from Google is set to prove very helpful as potholes are the main reason for many problems like traffics, accidents etc. With nearly every vehicle coming with a GPS navigation system, the only additional element needed would be the sensor to collect the information on vibrations and how much the auto bounces.
As reported by Autoblog, Google was awarded a patent that will use the Global Positioning System in your vehicle to note the location of potholes and send that data to the cloud.
That information will be put into a data base where the data will be used to alert drivers about damaged roads. According to the language in the patent, if a vehicle goes through a particularly rough piece of terrain, the program can then feed this data to a “central server for distribution in road quality reports and improve driving directions in mapping software”.
Filing a patent doesn’t mean Google will implement the technology or that the service will be available to drivers any time in the near future.
The technology should make its first appearance in Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s fleet of autonomous cars as the company continues to immerse itself into the auto sector.
