Asian American Advocates OCA Condemns Governor Bush’s ‘Anchor Baby’ Comments

Fellow Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who has defended his use of saying “anchor babies”, mocked Bush on Twitter and said the former Florida governor was trying to pander to Latinos.

Bush’s remarks came at a news conference in McAllen, Texas, near the border with Mexico, where he was asked whether using the “anchor babies” term in a radio interview last week could affect his ability to win Hispanic votes. “This must stop. Unaffordable and not right!”

I am beginning to wonder if Bush is capable of winning the Republican nomination, given his repeated “purposeful blindness” (for want of a better term) when it comes to talking about the immigration issue. Those agencies push the amenities of giving birth in the United States, telling prospective customers that their U.S.-born children will enjoy quality public education and other benefits.

He also pointed to the nation’s broken immigration system, suggesting that the answer is not a path to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants but instead a “path to legal status”.

Native-born children of immigrants – even those living illegally in the U.S. – have been automatically given American citizenship since the adoption of the 14th Amendment in 1868. In a statement, Schatz stated, “Jeb Bush’s comments regarding the children of Asian immigrants are derogatory and offensive”.
