Sam Clovis joins Donald Trump’s campaign
On Tuesday night, Donald Trump announced at an event in Dubuque that Clovis would serve as his national co-chairman and policy adviser.
Clovis, is a professor of public administration at Morningside College in Sioux City, IA and a popular conservative activist.
Donald Trump’s campaign gained some steam on Tuesday at the expense of an opponent who had already been languishing near the bottom of most polls. Clovis stated Perry’s views of Trump don’t represent his own.
Clovis said that he was both “humbled and honored” to take on the role and join team Trump. He also said that Trump would be “leading the way” next year when voters determine the GOP nomination.
Trump appears to be overshadowing other GOP hopefuls, stepping forward as the clear front-runner and now poaching staff.
Clovis was scheduled to introduce Trump at a rally Tuesday in Dubuque, Iowa.
Corey Lewandowski, a former New Hampshire-based strategist at Americans for Prosperity, which is affliated with industrialists Charles and David Koch, remains as campaign manager, overseeing Trump’s political operation.
But, he got a boost after a group of PACs supporting his campaign raised about $17 million, from a handful of wealthy Texas donors.
“I think it’s more the fact that I had a chance to talk with Mr. Trump, and Gov. Perry speaks for Gov. Perry, I think that’s probably the best way to say that”, Clovis said, when asked about that disconnect.
But, despite this latest development, the Perry campaign has launched a tepid fightback.
