Boston community leaders have varying opinions of Roslindale arrest video
The video, posted on World Star Hip Hop, shows an officer with his hands around the neck of the man as he is being arrested.
He said he did not have the name of the officer who put his hands on the suspect’s neck, but he argued that the officer did not apply pressure to the young man’s throat.
Necn reached out to the person who posted this video on Facebook, claiming he was the one being arrested in this video, but he did not return our requests seeking comment.
A young male is seen in the video shouting profanities at police.
That second officer grabbed his arm and walked him to a police cruiser, where he instructed a uniformed officer to arrest the youth for disorderly conduct.
“I saw the video and certainly he was trying to get the young man into the vehicle, there was no choking there”, Walsh said in an exchange with reporters, as quoted in the Boston Herald.
The leaders, speaking after the meeting, had varying points of view of the video.
“Even though it may not be the politest way to speak, it’s protected by the First Amendment”, she said.
The officer, who Boston Police Commissioner William Evans describes as a veteran officer, is being criticized for what he did as he tried to get the man in handcuffs into a police vehicle.
As the man is being placed in the cruiser, he becomes combative and screams louder.
As he’s being arrested, the man yells more expletives and refuses to get in the vehicle.
He also said the incident underscored the need for Boston police to wear body cameras, noting that an officer was also filming the incident.
“I’m assuming that this officer is going to suggest that he was doing it to record his version of events”, Hall said.
“Boston is in fact the anti-Baltimore, it is the anti-Ferguson”, he said. “There will be an investigation into the officer to see whether his actions were compliant with our rules and regulations”.
