US concerned about Iranian anti-Semitism
Opponents of the deal claim the White House is naive to believe that it will temper the Iranian regime, which was founded on the extreme Islamist doctrine of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.
There are no “anytime, anywhere” inspections, as Americans were promised during the negotiations.
That is why it is important to point out, at every opportunity, instances that undermine the myth. The case of the Iran nuclear agreement is just such an instance.
Obama is placing Israel – which unanimously opposes the treaty – at the mercy of Iran.
-Iran can object to any inspection and delay it at least 24 days and, according to the Wall Street Journal, up to three months.
Indeed, there is a strong probability that Netanyahu has succeeded in creating the climate in which Obama’s successor – Democrat or Republican – will be under increasing pressure to oppose Iranian hegemony in the region and seek to forestall its emergence as a full-blown nuclear state.
From this perspective those countries, and other regionally influential states in various parts of the world, will be carefully watching the extent to which the President can get the necessary debate in the United States away from being influenced by the partisan nature of the coming elections.
Obama also told Nadler that the United States would “accelerate the ongoing collaborative research and development for tunnel detection and mapping technologies…to detect and destroy tunnels before they can be used to threaten Israeli civilians”.
The démarche said the attack on Israel from Syria, allegedly led by an Iranian Quds Force official, “occurred before the ink on the [Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action] nuclear agreement has even dried and provided a clear indication of how Iran intends to continue to pursue its destabilizing actions and policies as the worldwide sanctions regime is withdrawn in the near future”. Why do those secrets between Iran and the United Nations simply not invalidate this agreement?
-Hundreds of prominent American Jews have publicly supported the agreement in a Times ad and open letter to Congress.
If he votes in favor of the Iranian deal, he risks opening deep rifts within one of his most loyal and financially generous constituencies – the New Jersey Jewish community.
Second, according to various polls, American Jews may be the ethnic or religious group most supportive of the deal. Obama noted that the United States has provided $3 billion over the years to help develop and purchase the Israeli-manufactured Iron Dome short-range missile interceptor systems and to pay for the Arrow 4 and David Sling 1/8Israeli3/8 missile defense systems. Take the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn in Greece, feeding off the despair of austerity; take the antisemitic Jobbik party in Hungary, which one in five Hungarians voted for past year; take the foul intolerance of murderous Islamic fundamentalism.
One such side deal was recently revealed by the Associated Press, showing that Iran itself would be tasked with collecting photographs and videos of the Parchin nuclear base, as well as obtaining soil samples from the site and providing equipment for “technical verification” by the IAEA. The administration’s efforts appear to be mustering the required majority to secure the expected presidential veto – 28 senators have come out in support of the deal and only two – Menendez and Schumer – have come out against.
It is with this in mind that I am writing on behalf of the National Jewish Democratic Council to thank you. By neutralizing the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran, we are better positioned than ever to work with Israel and other partners to promote regional stability and advance our mutual security. “They are designed to provide a reason – or cover – for Jewish and pro-Israeli US members of Congress to justify their voting against a congressional resolution of disapproval of the agreement that will be voted upon when Congress returns in September”.
More importantly, there is an increasing number of secular Jews who have effectively no contact whatsoever with organized Jewish life communally, culturally or religiously. “I don’t mean to make false equivalences; we need [Holocaust education] to serve as something that makes us empathetic to people rather than paranoid”.
“No matter where you stand on the Iran deal, comparisons to the Holocaust, the darkest chapter in human history, questioning the credentials of long-standing advocates for Israel, and accusations of dual loyalty are inappropriate”, the statement read. However, the Americans may be forced to review this policy in order to keep them on board. “I do believe that if we bless Jews openly, unapologetically and clearly, God is obligated to bless us”. They have much more experience in the Middle Eastern shuk.
