Can the Giants Win With a Brand New Offensive Line?
The biggest injury to all was to linebacker Jon Beason. That doesn’t even count a rookie safety who was already lost for the season, and a Pro Bowl defensive end who’s been in limbo since blowing up his own hand.
The Giants open their regular season three weeks from tonight in Dallas.
“I have my mind made up”, Beason said. Beason’s injury appeared to not be serious as he was later seen back on the sidelines talking with teammates.
August 14, 2015; Jacksonville, FL, USA; Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Kenzel Doe (82) is tackled by Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Thurston Armbrister (57) and outside linebacker Khairi Fortt (58) during the second half of a preseason NFL football game at EverBank Field.
“We’ve got to be better in the passing game, obviously”, Manning said.
Giants safety Justin Currie left the game with an apparent ankle injury late in the first quarter. The Giants offensive line showed that it was just as concerning as it was last season. “I’m not going to speculate on that probably until we see how this week goes and how the doctors have a chance to work with him a few days and maybe then they will have a better opinion about that”, he said. That said, I think Corey Grant has won a spot in this league somewhere so trying to stash him on the practice squad is very, very risky. That’s the most important part, so we’ll start now. The offensive line blocked well in the run game, but there were miscommunications against a blitz that lead to a sack of Bortles on the first drive, and a holding call on Joeckel, albeit a a questionable call, stalled the second drive.
“The good thing about it is I’ve been down this road before and know how to prepare not necessarily being on the field”. Nat Berhe, Landon Collins, Cooper Taylor and Mykkele Thompson were out with injuries. They went into a bend but don’t break mode, which again, is mild improvement over a week ago, but not what Coughlin and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo were looking for. Jackson, a converted cornerback, was a sixth-round pick last year who didn’t play his rookie year because of microfracture surgery on his left knee. I can tell you that right now.
Receivers Victor Cruz (calf) and Rueben Randle (knee tendinitis) did not play on Saturday and Coughlin did not know whether they would practice this week for Saturday’s game against the Jets.
“But when we look at it from any number of players that were in the game that got a lot of snaps, whether it was planned or not, it was good for them”.
