Twitter rolls out web notifications for direct messages

Micro-blogging website Twitter has been bestowing a lot of its attention onto its direct messaging service recently. Upon clicking the notification, users are directed to their direct messages page from where they can read and respond.
Twitter is clearly about messages, but the problem is that they are all public, which leads to shorter discussions.
This one is for the folks trying to take public tweets into a DM to talk trash about it. The onboarding for this process is different now, making it more friendly to those who haven’t tried it. Big avatars, recent conversations, etc. “Below your most recent conversations, we suggest more conversations to dive into”, and provided a screenshot of how the feature will look.
While most Twitter users utilize its benefits over smartphones and other handhelds (almost 80% of 316 million monthly active users), the share of users using Twitter over desktops is unknown.
The desktop notifications update comes after Twitter’s announcement from a few weeks ago that lifted the 140-character limit from Direct Messages between users. The company also unveiled Group Direct Messaging in January.
