Naman Ojha and Karun Nair added to India’s Test squad
“This is a dream come true for me and I am really looking forward to it”, said the 23-year-old after being selected for the tour of the Emerald Isles. Just a couple of days ago, Nair impressed the selectors with an unbeaten century to bail India A out of a tight spot against South Africa A during their unofficial test in Wayanad on Friday.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named wicketkeeper Naman Ojha and Karun Nair as their replacements to join the team”, the BCCI said in a statement.
India lost the first Test against Sri Lanka by 63 runs to concede the lead in the three-match series.
Vijay and wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha were ruled out for the remainder of the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka due to injuries.
“Saha has sustained a strain in his lower right hamstring and would require rehabilitation and strength training to recover completely.
Vijay has sustained mild re-occurrence on his pre existing injury in his right hamstring and would need further strength training to recover completely”, the release said.
Saha sustained the injury today while batting in India’s second innings. Madhya Pradesh’s Naman Ojha has been named as his replacement.
Nair, who had had a modest run during the Ranji campaign, sprang to life in the final against Tamil Nadu in Mumbai when he made a triple century. “Karun Nair will be joining the team for the third Test”.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) responded to those setbacks on Sunday by calling up two players uncapped at Test level, although Ojha has previously represented India in a solitary one-day worldwide and two Twenty20s.
Vijay is the second Indian opener to get injured on the tour.
