Howie Mandel apologizes for bulimia joke
After the performance, in which Starr regurgitated judge Heidi Klum’s $500,000 ring inside a lock (we know it was half a million dollars because she mentioned it multiple times), Mandel claimed he was “the best act of the night”.
Sowie, says Howie. America’s Got Talent judge Howie Mandel apologized on Tuesday, August 25, after his ill-conceived joke about eating disorders during the show’s live broadcast sparked backlash on social media. After a performance tonight by the Professional Regurigitator, whose act involves him ingesting things and then throwing them back up in interesting ways, Mandel joked that he had found a way more or less to make bulimia entertaining. “I made a comment earlier, it’s live television”.
A few segments later, Mandel apologized for the remark, apparently after it began to make waves on social media.
“I just want to take a second to apologize”, Mandel said. “I made light of bulimia, which is a very serious eating disorder and mental health issue”, he said.
He made a similar apology on Twitter after the show.
‘I deal with mental health all the time, and I did something stupid. Im not flawless, I make mistakes.
As you can imagine there was an immediate rustling and reaction from the audience after he made the comment.
Mandel, who has spoken publicly of his own struggles with OCD and other disorders, later repeated his apology on Twitter. Americas Got Talent is now airing its tenth season on NBC.
