Cosmopolitan: Please Enjoy the Creepy New Lemony Snicket Teaser
Netflix’s impending recreation of the book franchise, A Series of Unfortunate Events, has Lemony Snicket fans in all kinds of anticipation.
“This was not released from Netflix and not anything official”, a company rep told Entertainment Weekly.
Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events was previously turned into a Hollywood film in 2004 featuring a stellar cast including Jim Carrey, Meryl Streep, Timothy Spall and Jude Law. Though this trailer is fan-made, it’s safe to assume people are eager to hear anything about this new series.
Count Olaf’s silhouette is featured in Netflix’s Series of Unfortunate Events teaser trailer. A new promo making the rounds seems like an exceptionally faithful rendering of Daniel Handler / Lemony Snicket’s work, but has even more mysterious origins.
The teaser trailer is a delight to fans of the series, as it contains several easter eggs and nods to the books.
The fake teaser is set to Dresden Dolls’ “Missed Me“, a fine choice, but one that ignores the excellent songs written by The Gothic Archies for the audiobook version of the series. The last thing you will see in the clip is an ominous shadow of a very familiar and quite hated character who is nevertheless an integral part of the story.
The video isn’t on the official Netflix YouTube account.
Of all the children’s books series that didn’t deserve to have cruddy movie adaptations, A Series of Unfortunate Events is perhaps Hollywood’s greatest victim.
The books follow the misadventures of the Baudelaire orphans – Violet, Klaus and Sunny – as they attempt to escape the clutches of the evil Count Olaf.
