Kurt Sutter developing Sons of Anarchy spinoff for FX
Do you want to see a Sons of Anarchy spinoff?
The Hollywood Reporter published the same news at the same time, which means we should probably consider it at least a somewhat official announcement. FX is searching for a show runner because
The Mayans project would be produced in a joint deal by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions.
There are no further details on the spinoff or who would star in it, but this is good news for “Sons of Anarchy” fans missing the hit show, which ran from 2008 to 2014. The mainly Hispanic and Mexican club was depicted as on-again, off-again rivals to SAMCRO, and were known for their heroin factories and involvement in prostitution. He’s drawing up plans for a spin-off focused on the Mayan Motorcycle Club. The show follows Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam), son to SAMCRO co-founder John Teller (Victor Newmark), as he deals with his personal life and obligations to the motorcycle club. Kurt Sutter created a vast and deep universe with Sons of Anarchy and there’s a few different spinoff routes the series could go.
There’s no word on a release date or cast, but I’m sure we can get a better sense of the latter once it’s announced if this is a prequel or a sequel.
At Comic-Con in July Sutter hinted that he had plans in the works for a possible prequel or limited series based on “SoA“.
Sons of Anarchy ended in 2014 with a record 9.2 million viewers tuning in for the series finale.
Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is executive producing a follow-up drama that would take place in the familiar setting of Northern California, reports Entertainment Weekly. Sutter and team have not yet locked in a writer to help spearhead the project as Sutter is consumed by Bastard, for which he serves as a creator, writer, producer, director and, yes, actor.
