Sony’s new speaker is a TV remote
It was a cooler with a speaker, a blender, huge wheels, USB power, and lights and so on. Sony is once more highly innovative, although it appears that the guys have nothing better to do than imagine peculiar combos that don’t exactly fit in your acquired taste for technology. Isn’t it the least practical thing to do?
As you can see on the picture, the company is targeting the Japanese market with this device as everything is written in Japanese.
The idea is that sometimes you want to listen to something that’s on the TV but you’re not actually watching the TV.
For example it might come in handy if you’re watching some kind of cooking show and you just need to follow the instructions. The sound is pumped through the portable speaker instead of or as well as your TV’s built-in speakers.
Weighing in at almost one pound, according to The Verge, the device comes with a base station; connect it to your TV to transmit audio and recharge the remote.
The speaker communicates with the TV by using a wireless dongle, and has a large volume dial on the right that can be pushed in to mute the sound. It measures 179mm x 28mm x 71mm and weighs about 440g. The internal battery is said to last up to 16 hours.
Sony says that this device is particularly useful when there’s a lot of noise going around in your apartment.
The SRS-LSR100 will be released in Japan on September 12, priced at ¥19,980 (around £106). The main reason is expected price of around 160$ for this remote, so definitely no one will be preferring it over much cheaper Set Top Box.
