Suspect named in fatal shooting of 2 journalists during live broadcast
Two American TV journalists were shot dead during live reporting in rural Virginia on Wednesday, a local news network reported.
WDBJ7 tweeted a picture of the two victims along with the message: “We love you, Alison and Adam”.
“We do not know the motive”.
Reporter Alison Parker and photojournalist Adam Ward were doing a live report from Bridgewater Plaza in Moneta, Virginia, according to the station affiliate.
In chilling footage that has been posted online, several shots break out and screams are heard. A Twitter account under the name Bryce Williams posted two videos of the shooting. His Twitter and Facebook accounts have since been suspended.
Parker was the morning reporter for the Roanoke station and a native of Virginia.
“Troopers approached the vehicle and found the male driver suffering from a gunshot wound”. The gunman was still at large and being pursued by police on Interstate 81, WHSV reports. She was dating an anchor at WDBJ, Chris Hurst, and worked as an intern at the station before returning in the past year as a reporter, according to WDBJ.
Gov. Terry McAuliffe has said the arrest of a suspect in the shooting is imminent.
“Police have advised us that as long as this person is on the loose, we should stay in the building” said Marks. The camera appeared to get dropped on the ground. She loved her family, her parents and her brother.
The woman whom they were interviewing, Vicki Gardner, was shot in the back and is in surgery.
Cameraman Adam Ward, 27, who also died in the shooting, was engaged to Melissa Ott, a producer for the station’s morning show. The shopping mall where the incident happened is just off Smith Mountain Lake in Moneta, about 25 miles southeast of Roanoke.
In December 2012 Parker graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where she studied journalism in JMU’s School of Media Arts and Design.
