2 members of Virginia news crew fatally shot
Gordon Smith, president of the National Assn. of Broadcasters, called the deadly shootings “heartbreaking and horrifying”.
Vester Lee Flanigan, who reported under the name Bryce Williams at the station, is a disgruntled former reporter at the station, according to sources.
Sepulveda said Flanagan is considered armed and unsafe. “I am numb”, he said.
Note: RNN has removed links to online video of the shooting after learning it resulted in the deaths of two people.
The wounded woman was identified as Vicki Gardner, executive director of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The boyfriend of Alison Parker, the TV reporter who was gunned down this aftermoon along with her cameraman, has paid heartfelt tributes to her online. We wanted to get married. We just moved in together.
We didn’t share this publicly, but @AParkerWDBJ7 and I were very much in love.
Photographer Adam Ward had been with WDBJ since July 2011, according to a LinkedIn page believed to belong to him. “I am heartbroken for his fiancee”.
“She was so enthusiastic and she was doing what she loved”, he told CNN. But Ward’s camera captured an image of the gunman.
Morgan says Adam had been with the station for four years.
Terry McAuliffe said his arrest should be “imminent”.
There is no word if any suspects are in custody.
The Augusta County Sheriff’s office reported that Flanagan was driving a 2009 silver or gray Ford Mustang. The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are both sending personnel from Roanoke. Colleagues point out that he was known to hear of news on his way home, then turn around and go back to work to help report the story. The camera drops and a man can be seen walking toward Parker. A memorial is expected to take place tomorrow.
The series of photos, including one of his “sexy bedroom”, came to an end Wednesday when the former WDBJ used the account to live tweet his fatal war path.
“We are working with police to get to the bottom of this senseless crime”, WDBJ general manager Jeff Marks said.
“We’ve lost members of our family”, anchor Jean Jadhon said on-air. The extent of the other person’s injuries is unknown at this time.
Another local station, WSLS10, said that police were searching for a gunman. She graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and was news editor of its recognized newspaper, The Breeze. The station said in a tweet shortly before the shooting that Parker was looking into the planning process for a celebration. Ward was a graduate of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Before WDBJ, Parker worked at WCTI, the ABC affiliate in Eastern Carolina.
