Sorry Hannibal Fans, Netflix And Amazon Have Both Passed On The Series

Amazon and Netflix might not be up for taking on Hannibal, but there are still other options for the series.

On June 22, 2015, NBC ordered Hannibal to be canceled because of its low ratings.

Sorry, Fannibals. Neither Amazon nor Netflix will be bringing “Hannibal” back from cancelation.

Showrunner Bryan Fuller tweeted in all caps because this is serious news. Because of that project, Fuller may have needed a full year to return to Hannibal and Deadline says Amazon wasn’t willing to wait that long if they picked the series up. We are still holding out hope especially for the latter, mostly because they seemed to enjoy having “Community” as a part of their family and this has a similar devoted following. Hannibal is based on the novel, Red Dragon, written by Thomas Harris.

It starred Hugh Dancy as FBI special agent Will Graham, a crime scene investigator with a special understanding of murderers and psychopaths, and Mad Mikkelsen as Lecter, a forensic psychiatrist with a hunger for human flesh who will become Graham’s biggest challenge.

Both NBC and Fuller made statements about the show when the news of its cancellation broke.

The fate of axed horror series Hannibal looks less hopeful after both Netflix and Amazon “passed” on the chance to revive the cult show. Although the show never won over a large enough audience, it did achieve critical acclaim. Executive producer Bryan Fuller announced on Twitter that the streaming service had passed on picking up the cancelled NBC drama.

NBC is now airing the third and possibly final season with the finale set to air in August.
