Ex-Star India CEO’s wife detained for sister’s murder
Just over three years after Mumbai resident Sheena Bora went missing, the police today arrested her sister Indrani Mukerjea for murder.
Indrani Mukherjea was arrested by suburban Khar police, DCP (Detection) Dhananjay Kulkarni said.
The police started treating Indrani as a “person of interest” after they were tipped off that her driver Shyam Rai had been seen frequenting the place in Raigad from where Sheena’s body was found.
The case dates back to 2012 when Raigad police found the victim’s remains, following which a murder case was registered against unidentified people.
A top police official, while confirming the arrest, declined to be identified or provide details of the case. But senior officials said he had told interrogators that the two sisters fell out over some property or financial dispute.
“The two have been arrested and charged under sections 302 (murder), 201 (disposing evidence or giving false statements), 363 (kidnapping) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC”.
With Rai as guide, a team of officers reached the location where the body was dumped.
A police officer involved in questioning Indrani with Maria said she has claimed that Sheena is in the US and once the family establishes contact with her, the cops will have all the answers they are looking for. “A property or financial dispute is believed to be the main motive for the murder”.
Indrani and Peter Mukerjea, promoters of INX Media Pvt. Peter was the Chairman and CEO of the company.
He was introduced to Indrani through Alyque Padamsee, at a time when she was working as an HR consultant at Star India and Peter was the CEO.
