Ancient Greek Palace Unearthed near Sparta
The ancient palace dug out by archaeologists near Sparta appears to have been built sometime around the 17th or maybe the 16th century BC, during Greece’s Mycenaean Age. The site and the objects discovered will provide the archeologists insights into the ancient Mycenaean civilization. The remnants recommend the palace had 10 rooms was product of stones; worship supplies and archaic inscriptions have been discovered on the location. According to available evidence, the palace was probably destroyed by fire at some point in the late 14 or early 13 century. Though the blaze was devastating, razing several buildings of the complex, tablets and seals made of unbaked clay were preserved, their still-readable archaic inscriptions dating back to the Mycenaean Age.
The palatial remnants have been unearthed on the archaeological website generally known as Aghios Vassilios Hill, a large tract close to the traditional village of Xirokambi, the place Greek archaeologists have been digging since 2009.
Over the years, they found numerous artifacts and buildings belonging to the Mycenaeans including gorgeous palatial complexes, tombs filled with treasures, and inscriptions in Linear B which was decoded last century.
In the palace, archaeologists found ceremonial cult objects including a drinking goblet shaped as a bull’s head, and well-preserved tablets with ancient writing on them that contain dates, names, religious- and business-related data.
