Clinton Says Biden Has ‘Very Difficult’ Decision About 2016 Run
Nelson said, “My sense is, Vice President Biden will take a look at it, but he won’t get in the race unless Hillary gets in trouble”. “With such a large percentage of undecided voters and historical precedent tilting in his favor, there is no better moment for Vice President Biden to enter the race”.
Biden has been in contact with longtime aides and donors who could help finance a viable presidential campaign against well-funded candidates in the 2016 race.
Some have described the 2016 Democratic nomination, and even the election itself, as hers to lose.
“I just want the vice president to decide to do what’s right for him and his family“, Clinton told reporters Wednesday after a campaign event in Ankeny, Iowa, calling Biden a “friend”, CNN reports.
At the same time, while Sanders has been rising in polls across the country, Clinton has been bogged down by questions surrounding her use of a private email server while at the State Department and whether or not she sent emails containing classified material.
Sanders has a 78 percent favorability rating among New Hampshire Democrats, compared to Clinton’s 63 percent.
Key Democratic fundraisers have been invited to a meeting with Biden after Labor Day, a source close to Biden confirmed to CNN.
Press Secretary Josh Earnest said at the White House briefing Monday that Mr. Obama believes putting Joe Biden on the ticket in 2008 was the smartest decision he’s made in politics.
Invitations are already out for a September second visit to Miami at a fundraiser for Democratic senator Bill Nelson, who said in an interview with Florida station WTSP that a Biden run is contingent on the strength of the Democratic front runner.
That however cannot be construed as an endorsement from the man. Joe Biden running for the house can turn out to be awkward for the party as the front runner for the democrats, as of now, Hillary Clinton is going strong. Though he doesn’t need the President’s permission, Obama has clarified that he would not stand in his way or counsel him against a run.
Biden trails behind both in most surveys.
With Biden’s decades of public service, he has “certainly earned the right to make this decision without external pressure” and on his own timetable, Earnest added.
He compared Clinton to Gen. David Petraeus, the former four-star Army general and Central Intelligence Agency director who pleaded guilty in January to one misdemeanor charge of mishandling classified information in his dealings with his biographer and lover.
