Assad ‘confident’ of Russian support for Syria regime
“All the players need to be part of the solution”.
Assad had been asked by Al-Manar’s correspondent about US President Barack Obama’s comments earlier this month that Russian Federation and Iran “recognise that the trend lines are not good for Assad”.
“Every conscious Syrian wants a genuine political solution to save their country and rebuild their community, but Bashar Al-Assad is the only one who does not want this, which he stated in 2011 when saying he was going into battle “to break wills”.
He added: ‘This was never the case with Russia’s policy, neither during the Soviet Union, nor during the time of Russian Federation…
Assad said Iran, too, remained a strong ally, adding that the recent nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers would strengthen the country’s role in worldwide affairs, benefiting Syria.
‘The power of Iran is the power of Syria, and a victory for Syria is a victory for Iran‘. “We are on the same axis, the axis of resistance”.
According to Syria President Assad the Syrian government would not reject such an alliance, though it made no sense “that states which stood with terrorism would be the states that will fight terrorism”.
Turkey’s critics say it has used its role in the US-led coalition against ISIS as a cover to attack Kurdish PKK fighters and stem Kurdish political and territorial ambitions.
Bashar Hafez al-Assad is the President of Syria, commander-in-chief of Syrian Armed Forces, General Secretary of the ruling Ba’ath Party and Regional Secretary of the party’s branch in Syria.
The plan received support from a UN Security Council presidential statement last week.
