ThinkGeek will release an Original Series Star Trek Communicator
Since humanity did away with the dial pad by the year 2265, it’s not exactly stated if you can place a phone call using the communicator but you can certainly answer with just a flick of the wrist and a “Kirk here”. He usually used the walkie-talkie-like device to notify Scotty to beam himself back up onto the Enterprise, which didn’t always work out as planned and often caused a lot of drama, as you can probably imagine. It’s constructed from aluminum and even has a magnetic stand for wireless charging.
Once users connect it to their phones via Bluetooth, the Communicator can be used to make and receive calls, or work as a speaker for streaming music. Also on display will be the Black Widow Light-Up T-Shirt and a Star Wars R2D2 Bluetooth Speakerphone. (Party on the Enterprise!) And for the hardcore Trekkies, the device also plays authentic Star Trek sounds and recorded conversation fragments.
Star Trek fans will immediately recognize the iconic sci-fi show’s Communicator which has up till now only been a prop on a TV show, but it’s going to serve a real goal very soon. That’s right, you can really communicate with this Communicator. It’s with that in mind that The Wand Company has launched a Bluetooth replica of the Star Trek Communicator, just in time for San Diego Comic-Con.
Based in the United Kingdom, the Wand Company is now branching out into other geek subcultures with Doctor Who inspired sonic screwdriver remotes and now Star Trek. The Star Trek Communicator Bluetooth handset, Starfleet standard issue, will go on sale on January first.
