Clinton addresses e-mail controversy
While the setup of the federal emailing system makes it impossible to forward an email marked as “classified” to a private account, it is still possible to paraphrase or retype classified information and send it as an unprotected message to a personal account.
“Nobody talks to me about it other than you guys.”
We would be going through the same process. Or in 2011 this should have been handled differently than it was. That has nothing to do with me. “I won’t get down in the mud with them”. “But that does not change the facts”.
For now, federal authorities characterize the Justice Department inquiry into Hillary Clinton’s private email server as a security situation: a simple matter of finding out whether classified information leaked out during her tenure as secretary of state, and where it went. What I did was legally permitted.
Kendall said in the letter to the committee that he and another lawyer at his firm were given security clearances by the State Department to handle a thumb drive that contained about 3,000 emails later turned over to the agency. Politico reported that State classified them “in many cases retrospectively”. These allegedly contained information classified as Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information, among the government’s highest levels of classification. The State Department filed court papers Wednesday afternoon saying it “does not believe that any personal computing device was issued by the Department” to Clinton.
According to NPR, agents will begin questioning close associates of Clinton at the State Department and beyond. “… Everybody’s acting like this is the first time it’s ever happened-it happens all the time”.
“We wouldn’t be here today if this employee had followed government policy”, Sullivan said, apparently referring to Clinton. So, that’s what they’re sorting out and that’s what happens a lot of the times.
“If it had been a government account and I said, ‘Release it, ‘ we’d be having the same argument”, she later added. This will prove problematic for Clinton, since it won’t just show what she deleted, but when she wiped the server, and, perhaps, who else was trying to access the server outside of the Clinton family.
Requested concerning the further emails being reviewed by intelligence businesses, State Division John Kirby informed a media briefing on Monday: “It is a wholesome factor”.
When not speaking to the press, she’s started to make jokes about the emails – or blames the whole never-ending episode on partisanship. I was the official. “I won’t play politics with national security or dishonor the memory of those who we lost”. And as I just said, over 1,200 of the emails have been deemed not work related. “Let’s see what the investigation reveals, if anything”.
