3 killed in street fighting in southeast Turkey

Another attack on riot police in southeastern Mardin province late Friday injured at least 24 people, including 10 policemen, security sources said.

A Vice News spokesperson confirmed that two of its journalists and their fixer were detained in Diyarbakir city late on Thursday.

More than 20 prisoners, mostly members of the Iraqi security forces and Kurdish Peshmerga combatants, escaped from an Islamic State controlled prison in the northern city of Mosul, according to Kurdish officials.

The Kurdistan’s Worker’s Party (PKK) has released a video on their official website Saturday showing last week’s attack on the Shah Deniz pipeline that transports natural gas from Azerbaijan to Turkey.

A spokesperson for VICE said in a statement the company is working to free the journalists.

Neither journalist provided an update regarding their current status on Twitter.

An air-backed operation was launched in the area to apprehend the attackers. The group is considered a terrorist organization by Ankara.

Speaking to reporters ahead of an election rally in The Hague, HDP leader Selahattin Demirtas said renewed negotiations would end the flare-up in clashes between Turkish armed forces and Kurdish fighters near Turkey’s southeastern border.
