USA vs. Japan giant robot battle scheduled for 2016 — VIDEO | Las Vegas
Two giant human-piloted robots are planning to fight.
In 2012, Japanese company Suidobashi Heavy Industry created the Kuratas robot back, which was then billed as “the world’s first giant boarding robot”.
“Yeah, I’ll fight”, Kogoro Kurata, Suidobashi CEO and founder, said on YouTube.
“Just building something huge and sticking guns on it”, Kurata continued.
That’s some fearless, fighting spirit however Kurata knows well that he has the goods to emerge as a victor for this robotic challenge, he also presented a counter offer that will feature a melee combat with the opponent, adding to his message for the Mark II, come on guys, just make this challenge cooler. “If we’re going to win this, I want to punch them to scrap and knock them down to do it”.
On the heels of the U.S. victory over Japan in the World Cup finals, another showdown between the two countries has gone viral: a robot battle.
Both the USA and Japanese teams will need to make modifications to their robots before any fight, which has been set for about one year from now. Whereas the American robot’s pilot sits in a cage, the Japanese mecha has an entirely enclosed cockpit with cameras on the head, according to Forbes.
While the whole robot challenge thing smacks of Transformers meets P.T. Barnum, what’s not to enjoy about two giant robots engaging in large-scale rock-’em-sock-’em?
MegaBots had originally suggested that it take place about a year from now. MegaBots has yet to respond to Suidoboshi’s video.
In 2016, the United States will dominate Japan again in a giant robot duel. Having secured funding from corporate sponsors, the engineering team has apparently completed enough of the robot to start throwing some global shade.
There are no details on the robot duel as of yet, although Megabot proposed it for sometime in 2016.
“[Suidobashi] is about three times faster than we are”, MegaBots cofounder Gui Cavalcanti said.
