NYC looking into parade for US women after World Cup win – WABC
Sharif Byam said soccer is growing in popularity here in the USA and the women deserve a parade.
With speed, skill, grit and all-American audacity, the US Women’s National Team trounced Japan 5-2 in a thrilling final that capped an undefeated seven-game tournament run.
Brewer wrote de Blasio saying this is an “opportunity for New York to recognize that heroes and role models come in all genders”.
But the notion got an additional boost from other officials throughout the day Monday, including from Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer. And for team veteran Abby Wambach, who scored the game-winner against Nigeria – adding to her tally as the highest-scoring worldwide soccer player of any sex, of any country, of all time.
Long-time defender Christie Rampone, who participated in he fifth World Cup, hails from Point Pleasant, N.J., midfielder Heather O’Reilly is from East Brunswick, N.J. and Golden Ball victor Carli Lloyd comes from Delran, N.J.in the southern part of the state.
“When I was younger watching sports women’s soccer was never that big of a thing and now it is so that’s great to see”, said another New Yorker.
