Double Fine’s latest is Headlander, a sci-fi about a disembodied head
Double Fine Productions, along with publishing studio Adult Swim Games, has recently announced their latest title, Headlander.
It all sounds very Double Fine, which is to say extremely unusual, potentially interesting, and just about impossible to really grasp without actually playing it. Adult Swim’s Headlander website isn’t terribly informative either, but it does say that the game is slated for release sometime in 2016. But Double Fine rarely settles for a traditional experience, and the announcement trailer proves this.
According to the description in this trailer, the main character is the last known human in the universe who has lost their entire body in an unexplained incident. The space helmet seems to act as a USB port for the head, allowing the head to detach and re-attach to other bodies. “As you launch from one body to the next, you’ll start to discover that things are not quite what they appear to be, and the fate of humanity has yet to be decided…” Now no platforms have been announced for the game. Whether it’s also heading to PS4 and/or Xbox One remains to be seen.
