Officer involved in shooting at St. Joseph Hospital
The shooting happened about 11 a.m.at St. Joseph’s Medical Center at 1401 St. Joseph’s Parkway. A police statement identified the patient as 26-year-old Alan Christopher Pean, who was shot in the abdomen during the struggle Thursday at St. Joseph’s Medical Center. Police say the patient survived and no other injuries were reported.
The patient is in the intensive care unit, Smith said.
Officer Ortega, fearing for his and his partner’s safety, then discharged his duty weapon, striking the suspect one time. The suspect fought with the officers, injuring both.
Both of the officers were treated in the hospital’s emergency room. The patient was being combative with hospital staff before officers were summoned, she said. “They’re being treated in the ER right now for lacerations to the head and, as I said, one of them appears to be concussed”.
Names of the patient and the officers were not immediately released. The shooting is under investigation.
