White disappointed over Aldo’s pullout from UFC 189
The UFC’s worst nightmare for the upcoming UFC 189 event has come true as teatherweight champion Jose Aldo has been forced to pull out of the highly anticipated title fight with Conor McGregor due to a rib injury. In his second fight against Aldo, Mendes managed to take the champion to the end of the fifth round, but the judges awarded the decision to Aldo. “It’s definitely disappointing”.
There’s no getting around it. No matter how much you want to see Conor McGregor vs. Jose Aldo, after months and months of buildup, it’s going to have to wait.
“If we were to fight, I certainly know that he would not want to step into my world”, McGregor went on. “I feel he left the world tour emotionally invested”.
Aldo was cleared by doctors to fight, but pulled out anyway. “Rightfully so, the belt should be taken from him and we should contest for the interim belt or, in my opinion, the real belt”, McGregor added.
The victor between the Dubliner and Mendes will claim an interim title before taking on Aldo at a later date once he has recovered.
However, during a UFC 189 conference call this week, the brash Irishman with the gift of the gab and a mean straight right said he wasn’t interested in appearing on the card, which is expected to be held at either Rod Laver Arena or Etihad Stadium.
“In his last outing, “Money” dispatched ex-title challenger Ricardo Lamas via technical knockout in less than three minutes at UFC Fight Night in Fairfax, Va. Of Mendes” last six Octagon triumphs, five have come via KO or TKO. That’s my mindset. I wake up every morning, I gameplan stuff before I get out. At worst, he’s beaten up a bunch of carefully selected opponents, who all got the call because Zuffa executives believed they would make him look good.
McGregor responded to Mendes’ comments aggressively, stating: “I’m gonna demolish him”.
“I can hear a quiver in his voice”.
“So if he would like to return with his trail between his legs at once, that’s don’t worry, he are available back”. So that can’t be the main reason why they are creating an interim title, but the UFC is a private company which I work for, so I can’t complain about its decision, but I can’t say I agree either.
Aldo is a long-time and dominant champion, but McGregor had skillfully handled the build-up to the fight. “I’m going to get in there and destroy this dude”.
