Gay marriage means more divorce business
Louisiana’s Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed as moot an appeal of a state judge’s ruling declaring the state’s same-sex marriage ban unconstitutional – but it wasn’t a unanimous decision. Cecil Bell says he has had it with the USA Supreme Court’s trampling on states’ rights. The pact is a directive to state and national lawmakers who have opposed gay marriage and the Affordable Care Act and want to stop the laws’ enforcement, according to a report by the Montgomery County Courier newspaper. “That question being: What can we do?” Justice Jefferson Hughes dissented, but the other justices concluded that they were bound by the federal court ruling.
“The dissenting opinion suggests we should not follow the holding of the Supreme Court of the United States“.
“I thought I would be in my 20s or 30s by the time same-sex marriage was legalized!” exclaims eldest participant Elle, 13, who later excitedly imagines other kids growing up in a world where nationwide equality has never been illegal.
The attorney general’s office and council of probate judges worked quickly to make sure new marriage license applications were sent to county probate judges not long after the ruling came down.
