Wawrinka ignited the blow-out playing a horrific ninth game.
Djokovic still has business to tend to before he can consider the next Major.
Djokovic moves on to play Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov.
Sometimes ths scrambling frustrated Wawrinka into over-playing.
The following game Wawrinka hit a forehand victor with some extra pace on it to force deuce but was unable to get the back as it was consolidated for 2-0.
Djokovic proved him right by going up two breaks en route to a 3-0 second-set lead. “He obviously didn’t play at his best level, but I felt like I was pretty solid from the back of the court and doing what I needed to do”. Wawrinka almost doubled the top seed in errors: 33 to 16.
The scoreboard reflected service games with Wawrinka’s power from the base-line and Djokovic’s athleticism up-and-down the court getting the job done in equal measure. He dug in on the baseline and hammered drives into opposite corners drawing his third break point.
Wawrinka was then asked if he was happy with the way that Kyrgios, who lost his opening match in Cincinnati, had apologised for the incident.
“He’s really young. It’s just the beginning of his career. I think testing is also really important, but at the end of the day, if you could have only easy matches for the whole tournament, I don’t think anyone would object to that”, Williams said after her 54-minute stroll.
Djokovic demands his best each time out and isn’t shy about showing his disgust when it eludes him.
