Macy’s cuts ties with Trump: ‘No tolerance for discrimination

CNN reports that Macy’s pulled Donald Trump-branded merchandise from its stores, issuing a statement today in which the retailer said: “We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico”.

Donald Trump now exists in a very odd limbo: Businesses don’t want to touch him with a 10-foot pole but he continues to rise in the 2016 Republican presidential polls.

Trump has staked out populist-sounding ground in the campaign so far, railing against the impact of illegal immigrants, particularly from Mexico, on the US economy and vowing to “build a great wall on our southern border” to keep them out. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. Trump is reportedly suing them for $500 million, with another court case being brought against NBC.

While some train wrecks manage to gather people all around them to try and help out, others send people running away as quickly as possible.

A MoveOn.org petition calling on Macy’s to sever its relationship with Trump had collected well over 700,000 signatures as of Wednesday morning.

The Macy’s Trump line includes cufflinks and money clips, in addition to pinstripe suits and French Cuff shirts.

Trump, who has stood by his statements on Mexican immigrants, accused his ex- business partners of pandering to special interests.

However, Trump insists his words were misconstrued. “They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people”.

Left without a broadcast partner, Trump plans to stream the pageant live on the Internet, and he says he’ll be there in person. Its now unclear who, if anyone, will step in for Miss US hosting gigs.

The Miss United States of America pageant was already without a television broadcaster.

Flo Rida had been scheduled to perform at the upcoming Miss US pageant, scheduled to take place on July 12 in Baton Rouge, La, but decided to withdraw, reports the Associated Press.

The pageant lost both of its co-hosts, Cheryl Burke of “Dancing With the Stars” and MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts, on Tuesday.

NBC meanwhile said it would stop airing the pageants and Mr Trump would no longer appear in NBC reality show The Apprentice.

Trump later responded in his own explanation. “The mission of the Miss Universe organization has always been to unite women from all over the world and celebrate different cultures”. “Macy’s reported a slight drop in comparable sales last quarter, making it extremely risky to alienate such a sizable part of its customer base”.
