Caroline Wozniacki accuses Wimbledon of a bias to men on show courts
That unique scheduling – which does not happen at the other three grand slams – meant that Wozniacki played her fourth round against Muguruza on Court No 2.
Caroline Wozniacki accused Wimbledon officials of sexism yesterday when she claimed that women do not receive as many chances as men to feature on the larger courts.
In her post-match press conference, Wozniacki made no attempt to disguise her disappointment at not being giving the opportunity to play on either Centre Court or Court One.
Wozniacki was watched by skiing champion Lindsey Vonn – known in some quarters as the former partner of Tiger Woods – as she posted a 6-2 6-2 victory against Italian Camila Giorgi on Court One, and faces Garbine Muguruza of Spain next. “Most of last week it was only one women’s match on Court Two as well”, Wozniacki was quoted as saying by itv.com. “I would really love to play on a big court”.
Bacsinszky has a fairytale story that saw her stop playing tennis – she struggled psychologically due to abuse suffered in her childhood from her father – only to return to tennis and reach No 15 in the world.
Ex- semi-finalist Angelique Kerber was dismissed in three sets by unsafe Spanish player Garbine Muguruza in a Wimbledon third-round upset on Saturday.
Of the four left at the bottom half of the draw, only Agnieszka Radwanska has reached the Wimbledon final in the past (2012 runner-up).
The tie-break that settled the opening set on Court Two was finally won when Muguruza put away a drive volley and then, on the next point, pressured Kerber to plant a forehand wide. Ex- world number one Caroline Wozniacki has accused Wimbledon chiefs of failing to give female stars equal billing with their male counterparts on the main show courts.
“So I’m back in the second week, which is nice, and I’m going to try to do my best in the next round”. I don’t know how to explain it. I’m sure if they’re doing it, it’s not because of bad intentions. They say the major marquee players will normally be scheduled on the stadium court with Centre Court and Court 1 seeing the leading names.
