Tata Motors sales flat at 40680 units in August
“If you take out the new models, the industry growth will be in the negative”, Tata Motors President (Passenger Vehicles Business Unit) Mayank Pareek told PTI.
In the domestic market, Hyundai sold 40,505 units last month as compared with 33,750 units in August 2014, up 20.01 per cent.
In August 2015, Tata Motors passenger vehicles recorded a year-on-year growth of 2%, with sales of 11,194 nos., compared to 10,975 nos. “While the Creta has done about 7,400 units, other models have also contributed to the overall growth”, HMIL senior vice-president (sales and marketing) Rakesh Srivastava said. “The Tucson, our compact CUV, saw sales gains of 25.5 percent and the Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport experienced gains of 30 percent and 18 percent, respectively”. Newly launched Jazz clocked 5,404 units, while Honda City fetched 5,405 units during the month.
Cumulative sales (including exports) for the fiscal at 1,97,344 units, higher by 4 percent over 1,90,516 vehicles, sold past year. Sales of mini segment cars, including, Alto and WagonR, increased by 8.6 per cent to 37,665 units as compared to 34,686 units in the year-ago month, MSI said in a statement.
Tata Motors, India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, reported a sharp 4 percent year-on-year fall in its commercial vehicle sales in August.
Rival Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) reported 1.86 per cent increase in total sales at 3,95,262 units in August.
U.S. auto sales remained about flat on a year-to-year basis, adding 1.57 million cars and light trucks, and are on track to reach 17.81 million for the year. Stating that the company has been pleasantly surprised. he said: “The SUV segment in which Creta is in was doing about 12,100 units a month and we made a very ambitious plan by targeting 50 per cent of it, which has been exceeded”.
