Off-duty Texas police officer found dead in his home, investigators say death
At a news conference Tuesday, Standridge did not say how Allen died, but he said it did not appear as though law enforcement officers were being targeted.
Investigators haven’t yet pinpointed a motive, and are pursuing numerous leads as they try to track down suspects, Standridge said. Abilene and Clyde police are investigating with the help of the Texas Rangers and FBI, but Standridge stressed that there was no “indication right now that random law enforcement personnel are being targeted”.
Don Allen, 27, was killed at home some time Monday evening in Clyde, Texas, and found by family members around 7pm.
The answer wasn’t so obvious to whoever murdered Abilene, Texas-based Officer Don Allen. All three agencies are working with the FBI to investigate the incident.
“I cannot recall an Abilene police officer being murdered in what you could consider homicide, outside of something like a vehicular homicide”, Standridge said. Allen’s body was taken to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy. We look like we’re prepared for anything. We go to the same schools in this community. “If we get there, we are lost and we are not lost”.
Speculation about the cop’s death was swirling on Wednesday, but one thing is clear – the death is suspicious enough that the Texas Rangers and Federal Bureau of Investigation have been called in to investigate. “So it is manpower-intensive … we will work this nonstop until we ultimately find those persons accountable”.
Standridge described Allen as a “great man and great peace officer” who loved his job and always did it with a smile. He called the officer’s death “clearly suspicious”.
Allen is survived by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
