Investigation into shooting of Illinois officer in second day

Filenko said there was no indication that he was intentionally targeted, but authorities did not rule out that possibility. She listed the shootings of churchgoers in Charleston, S.C.; moviegoers in Louisiana; military personnel in Tennessee; and the two television journalists killed last week during a live broadcast in Virginia.
Authorities have employed 45 dogs in their search, along with six aircraft, Covelli said.

Gliniewicz, a 30-year veteran of the force, was found fatally shot in a swampy area near an old cement plant after pursuing three people, at around 8 a.m. Tuesday, police said. The only descriptions Gliniewicz gave of the men was that two of the men were white and one was black.
There are few specifics as to who exactly authorities are searching for, however, as the manhunt enters its second day.
“The coming days will be even more hard as we remember him as a police officer, a father and a member of our community”, Schmit said.
“It would be fundamental police procedure to at least stop and ask them why they’re there”, he said.
