Raven Symone, Whoopi Goldberg Still Defend Bill Cosby Despite Admitted
As a chorus of sexual assault accusations against Bill Cosby resounded this winter, some fans and famous friends stood by him, calling the allegations unproven attacks on a comedy legend.
Cosby’s statements came out after the Associated Press asked for the release of court documents related to a lawsuit filed against him by a ex- Temple University employee.
“Media coverage has improved dramatically, and is a lot more sensitive to victims and being fair and balanced now”, he said.
Cosby’s official Twitter account thanked her back then for her support.
Cosby has not been charged in criminal court in relation to any of the allegations.
Cosby’s lawyers in the Philadelphia case haven’t returned messages seeking comment.
Cosby admitted that in 1976 he had supplied Quaaludes – a strong depressant widely used in the 1960s and 70s, but which has been discontinued in the United States – to a woman who later accused him of assault.
Cosby admitted that he gave quaaludes, a now-banned sedative, to a 19-year-old woman before they had sex in Las Vegas in the 1970s.
“Most people would think the statute of limitations has run on the perjury from that deposition, but in fact, a good argument can be made that it has not run because it could not have been discovered because the records were sealed all these years”, he said.
Representatives for fellow “Cosby Show” stars Lisa Bonet, Malcolm-Jamal Warner and Phylicia Rashad – who has said she felt the allegations were part of a campaign to destroy Cosby’s legacy – didn’t immediately respond to inquiries about the developments. He said the public should not have access to what Cosby was forced to say as he answered questions under oath from the accuser’s lawyer almost a decade ago. (Cosby says he gave her three half-pills of Benadryl, but didn’t admit to doing anything without her knowledge.) Ten years after the case, the Associated Press went to court to get the documents released.
Cosby “has evidenced a predilection for sexual contact with women who are unconscious or drugged”. Others were wondering why it took a comedian to expose Cosby before others found the courage to speak out. Ultimately, a judge seized on Cosby’s public moralizing as he unsealed portions of the deposition that had been filed in court.
Who could imagine that kindly “Dr. Huxtable”, the beloved father and caring physician played by Bill Cosby on the The Cosby Show, could also be a serial rapist?
Attorneys Gloria Allred and her daughter Lisa Bloom are representing some of the women accusing Cosby of sexual assault.
The Bounce TV community, which is geared towards black viewers, stated it’s pulling its reruns of the Nineteen Nineties-period CBS sitcom “Cosby” from the air instantly. The documents cite a deposition that Cosby gave in the case on September 27 and 28, 2005 and quotes from it.
Cosby’s lawyers challenged Huth’s suit, saying a lower court judge allowed that certification to be added after an initial filing. Cosby’s lawyer also argued that the release would embarrass Cosby and would violate the confidentiality agreement signed by the two parties. I don’t have the strength at the moment until… each and every one of the women that have accused Bill Cosby, along with myself and a few others that have personally reached out to me that will not come forward due to character victimization – I would like an apology for each and every one of us in order for my soul to feel.
“[W]as it in your mind that you were going to use these quaaludes for young women that you wanted to have sex with?” the plaintiff’s attorney asked.
