Neighborhood of deadly fire to get smoke detectors from Tampa officials
Fire Rescue responded to the home on East Paris Street near North 39th Street around 4:30 a.m.
Authorities in Tampa, Florida say a woman and two children died and a third child was injured in an early morning house fire.
“As firefighters went in and we continued to pull out more victims, more support was called in”, Tampa Fire Rescue spokesman Jason Penny said. His grandmother Sheryl James and 8-year-old Reshard Ashley and Emjay Jackson all died in the fire. Romello Jackson, 8, was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he remained in critical condition.
No names have been released.
Representatives from the Red Cross and the Fire Marshal’s Office will be back in the neighborhood today making sure residents have working smoke alarms and a fire escape plan. The Tampa Tribune (http://bit.ly/1JNaZAi ) reports the grandmother and two children were found half-wedged under a mattress to escape the flames.
An investigation has begun into the cause of the fire.
