Bills debating whether to cut Matt Cassel
Some in the NFL world might have been surprised that career backup Tyrod Taylor won the Buffalo Bills’ starting quarterback gig, but those in the locker room were not among them. He doesn’t have a lot of experience given that he was a backup to Joe Flacco in Baltimore for the last three years, but it does appear that he could be a diamond in the rough for owners that pick him up off the waiver wire during the season. The Bills have been held back mostly by their shaky quarterback play in the last decade and a half, and now the team is pinning their hopes on Tyrod Taylor to get them out of it.
In fact Beamer believes Taylor did the one thing for his game that he think can actually improves a quarterback’s accuracy.
This season is going to be a very intriguing year for the Bills.
Harvin has been a big fan of Taylor’s since their high school days in Virginia, and pleased with Ryan’s decision. For a guy that everyone (including myself) likes to rag on, that’s pretty good. But it’s the coach’s decision. “If you weren’t chosen, it’s not the end of the road for you”. There are plenty of reasons to pick Manuel over Cassel, which this report shows that Rex Ryan sees. The Bills then prepare to open the season at home against Indianapolis on September 13.
Fourth-stringer Matt Simms is expected to start and play most if not all of Buffalo’s preseason finale at Detroit on Thursday night. In that time, the Bills have had eight different season-opening starters, and 12 quarterbacks start at least five games. As a whole, the three quarterbacks completed 30 of 33 passes for 395 yards and four touchdowns in the Bills’ preseason win over the Steelers on Saturday, though Cassel didn’t leave a lasting impression.
