Modi’s silence on Vyapam raises suspicion: D. Raja
The investigation “seems to have no answers for the spate of suspicious deaths”, said an editorial over the weekend in The Hindu, a national newspaper.
“The question is that such a big scam has happened, 2000 people are in jail, 500 are absconding, 46 people have died”. It is no stretch to imagine that many powerful people have a stake in not letting the complete truth come out. “We need to answer if any questions are raised”, added Chouhan.
“I am scared for the lives of people connected to me. There should be a CBI probe into the matter under the supervision of the Supreme Court“, said Raja.
He accused Digvijay Singh of “hitting below the belt” by making “unfounded allegations” after repeatedly losing in elections.
Opposition politicians and activists in Madhya Pradesh allege that the number of deaths is almost double the official count.
“The probe which is occurring is underneath the vigilant eyes of the Jabalpur High Court and the Madhya Pradesh Government has no position in it”, he stated. “It is undoubtedly a positive step”.
“The Congress rejects this upfront as it is nothing but hogwash and only an attempt to ease the mounting pressure of public opinion”. That many of those arrested are reportedly naming people, already dead to mislead investigators, is a clear giveaway as to why these deaths are happening.
“If the Supreme Court or the High Court feels that the probe is not ideal to the extent it should be, then it will give directions and the government will immediately accept it and hand over the matter to the CBI”, he had said.
Congress leader Digvijaya Singh also criticised the Prime Minister’s silence on the issue. On Saturday, Aaj Tak journalist Akshay Singh suddenly died when he had gone to interview the family of another deceased in the Vyapam Scam in Madhya Pradesh.
Reported by AIIMS sources, the viscera samples are likely to be sent to CFSL Delhi while histopathological examination of tissues will be conducted at AIIMS itself.
Namrata Damor, an accused in the scam, was found dead on railway tracks in Ujjain in January, 2012. Dr Ashok Devidas Bachani and Dr Harish Waghela submitted report to Jhabua police stating that there is no internal or external injury anywhere on the body. But he said so far, the police’s Special Task Force, which is probing the scandal, has not found any reason to believe there is a cover-up attempt behind the deaths.
“I have said this before, I can’t order a CBI enquiry directly”.
Singh said the HC and SIT had tarnished his image and the Supreme Court should safeguard his “right to reputation”.
