Reus to return to Dortmund for treatment
Germany have received a blow ahead of their upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers against Poland and Scotland with attacking midfielder Marco Reus ruled out due to a toe injury.
The FA’s official website deemed the 26-year old’s injury as a “slightly broken distal phalanx of his big left toe” with no estimation for his return.
A German team statement said: “The painful injury which the 25-times capped global sustained in the Bundesliga match against Hertha Berlin makes his participation in the two worldwide matches impossible”.
United have snubbed the opportunity to sign Marco Reus from Borussia Dortmund after baulking at their asking price of £60m ($92m).
Reus has had a long list of injuries in his career, with torn ankle ligaments ruling him out of the World Cup past year on the eve of the team’s departure for Brazil.
Germany play Group D leaders Poland in Frankfurt on Friday, a few hours after Scotland kick off against Georgia in Tbilisi.
He has been available for selection for just four of Germany’s last 10 internationals.
Germany can call up a replacement for the Poland game before 11am today and 11am Sunday for the Scotland game.
